Zicatela Beach

This beach is located on the open sea. It is extremely long, and width varies from 98 to 131 feet (30 to 40 meters). The smooth grey sand is steeply inclined, and the greenish-blue water is warm and crystal clear. Waves are as high as 20 feet (6 meters), making this beach an ideal spot for surfing. There is an annual three-day surfing tournament here in November. Participants come from the coastal region, the rest of the country, and from all over the world. It is a great experience to witness these men trying to dominate the fury of the sea. There is also a very exciting Miss Bikini contest, rallies and marathons, and an array of cultural events. This beach is good for strolls, sun bathing and swimming, although the latter is recommended for experts only. There are a few hotels and restaurants nearby.


Location: Puerto Escondido: Is located 165 miles (265 kilometers) south of the City of Oaxaca via Federal Highway 131. Approximate travel time: 5 hours.
You can access this beach by car, going from the Perez Gasga trail to the Coast Highway in the direction of Puerto Angel. Turn right after 1,640 feet (500 meters), and the beach is 656 feet (200 meters) ahead. You can also get there by walking along the beach.
